A former Philadelphia police officer, Patrick Heron, has been sentenced to 15 to 40 years in state prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting women and girls. His crimes, which often took place while he was in uniform and in the back of his police vehicle, included child sex assault, child pornography, kidnapping, and related offenses. Heron, who retired from the force in 2019, was initially accused of posing as an active officer to lure girls. Investigators later found evidence of predatory behavior spanning several years, and 48 victims have been identified so far.
