India has sought to balance its support to Israel on the issue of Hamas terrorism by expressing concern over mounting civilian casualties in Palestine. During talks with President Mahmoud Abbas, PM Modi reiterated India’s long-standing support for a sovereign, independent, and viable Palestine state. He also stated that India would continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestine. India’s aid has come at a crucial time as the Arab world, the West, and neighboring countries like Bangladesh and Pakistan have offered humanitarian support to the Palestinians. India has been supporting Palestine through its contributions to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and it has increased its annual contribution from $1.2 million to $5 million in 2018. Since 2002, India has contributed a total of $36.5 million to UNRWA till 2022-23, showcasing its commitment to the cause.
