The Congress on Tuesday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of displaying hypocrisy by first criticizing its allies and later supporting them. Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh called upon the people of the Northeast not to vote for regional parties like the Mizo National Front (MNF) and the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), stating that a vote for the MNF or the ZPM is essentially a vote for the BJP. Ramesh highlighted BJP leaders JP Nadda and Nitin Gadkari criticizing their ally MNF in Mizoram, which is a part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Ramesh criticized the BJP for conveniently ignoring MNF’s non-performance and corruption over the past five years. He also mentioned Amit Shah’s criticism of ally Conrad Sangma’s government in Meghalaya during the election campaign last year, followed by supporting him. Ramesh claimed that this is how the BJP manipulates regional parties and ultimately affects the people of the Northeast. These remarks were made ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in Mizoram on November 7, where the Congress aims to replace the ruling BJP-MNF alliance.
