Continuing his attack on Mahua Moitra in the “cash for query” case, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has questioned a Congress leader’s defense of the TMC MP. Dubey raised concerns about an outsider having access to the parliamentary portal through a member’s account, which could potentially compromise sensitive documents. He highlighted that members often have access to bills before they are presented in the House and pointed out Moitra’s role in the standing committee on IT, which is a sector of interest for the businessman implicated in the case. The allegations of bribery against Moitra are currently under investigation by the ethics committee.
In response to Dubey’s claims, Congress MP N Uttam Kumar Reddy, who is a member of Lok Sabha’s ethics committee, stated that Moitra would have needed to share an OTP with someone using her login for a question to be submitted on her behalf. Dubey linked this to a compromise of national interest through corruption.
The controversy escalated during a committee meeting when opposition members along with Moitra accused the chairperson, Vinod Kumar Sonkar, of asking indecent personal questions. Sonkar denied the allegations, suggesting they were motivated to shield Moitra from queries related to her alleged unethical conduct. Moitra pleaded innocence to the bribery claims and described Sonkar’s questions as filthy.
