Private Indian telecom operators Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have each signed a deal to sell their respective stakes in FireFly Networks, a WiFi infrastructure provider, to Singapore-based Manipura Digital Infrastructure OPCO Pte Ltd. The two telcos announced the stake sale in their respective stock exchange filings on Saturday. Airtel and Vodafone Idea will receive Rs 6.05 crore each for their stakes. FireFly Networks operates as a technology-neutral company, providing a shared network for telecom operators and internet service providers. Airtel and Vodafone Idea are expected to continue being customers of FireFly Networks after selling their stakes. The new owners plan to invest up to $100 million in the company after the transaction is completed within 45 days of the agreement signing. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, FireFly Networks contributed a small percentage to the consolidated turnover and net worth of both Airtel and Vodafone Idea. The stake sale marks their exit from the WiFi joint venture.
