Raipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Congress government in Chhattisgarh did not even spare ‘Mahadev’—an apparent reference to Enforcement Directorate charge that chief minister Bhupesh Baghel had received Rs 508 crore from promoters of online betting app Mahadev Book.

“The Congress government is sparing no effort to exploit the people. Even the name of ‘Mahadev’ was not spared from corruption”, he said while addressing an election rally in Durg.

Citing reports, he claimed that crores were seized in the last two days. This money was acquired from the poor through a betting app and was sent to the state for use in elections, he said.

The Prime Minister said the Congress party; its government and the chief minister must clarify their connection with the betting app promoters operating from Dubai. After the ED action, we heard that some attempts could be made to implicate BJP leaders by planting money in their houses and sending police to recover them but such attempts would not succeed.

Taking a dig at the Congress government, the Prime Minister said that everyone in Chhattisgarh knows that government offices operate with a ‘30 taka Kaka’ commission under Congress rule. Referring to the PSC scam, he said during the Congress’s rule, only the children of officers and Congress leaders secured jobs.

The people of Chhattisgarh have lost faith in the Congress government due to widespread corruption, the Prime Minister said, citing scandals involving liquor, cement, rice, Gothan, DMF Fund, and Corona cess. The BJP, once in power, will take appropriate action against those involved in corruption, he added.
