The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) to be personally present in court on November 10 to explain why real-time data on air pollution is not in the public domain. The court also ordered the smog tower installed on an experimental basis in Delhi to be up and working. The court expressed frustration with the DPCC’s response, which proposed disciplinary action against the DPCC Chairperson instead of addressing the issue. The court noted that there is a lack of public information on the real-time monitoring of data on air pollution management in Delhi. The court was dealing with an application to release data from a study on real-time source apportionment and forecasting for air pollution management in Delhi. The application also sought the publication of real-time source apportionment data for air pollution sources in Delhi. The court has instructed immediate compliance with these requests and ordered the Chairperson of DPCC to personally appear in court on the next date.
