The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) in Wayanad is implementing digital payment systems at all tourist destinations to provide better amenities for visitors. District Collector Renu Raj inaugurated the first phase of the project, which aims to leverage digitalization to foster competitiveness, inclusion, and sustainability in the tourism sector. Tourists can now obtain tickets through a unified QR code, as well as cash and debit/credit cards, at tourist sites. Travansoft, a Thiruvananthapuram-based startup, developed the software for the project, with the DTPC investing ₹15 lakh. The second phase, slated for completion within a month, will enable tourists to book tickets online for any destination worldwide, according to K.G. Ajesh, Secretary of Wayanad DTPC.
