Ford production workers at Kentucky Louisville vote against new labor deal

Production workers at Ford’s Louisville assembly and Kentucky truck plants have rejected the tentative labor agreement, while skilled trades workers have given their support, according to the UAW. The vote outcome indicates that the approval of the deal, which would significantly increase Ford’s costs, is not certain. The ratification of the contract was turned down by 55% of the production workers and backed by 69% of skilled trades workers. The overall percentage of votes in favor and the total number of votes cast were not disclosed. The automaker had previously withdrawn its full-year forecast due to uncertainty over the ratification of the deal with the UAW. Union workers are currently voting on contracts from Stellantis, GM, and Ford, following a coordinated strike against the Big Three automakers in Detroit. So far, 70.7% of workers at Ford’s various facilities have voted in favor of the deal, according to a UAW vote tracker. However, workers at some major plants, including the Dearborn Truck plant in Michigan, have not yet voted. In related news, General Motors’ Flint assembly plant in Michigan narrowly voted against the proposed contract with the automaker.
