Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal revealed on Tuesday that Tesla has plans to double its import of components from India. Goyal expressed his delight in seeing talented Indian professionals contributing to Tesla’s journey and mentioned the growing importance of Indian auto component suppliers in Tesla’s electric vehicle supply chain. Goyal’s statement followed his visit to Tesla’s manufacturing facility in Fremont. It was previously reported that Tesla was in discussions with the Indian government to manufacture a low-cost electric vehicle for the Indian market. Goyal’s visit to the US was also aimed at attracting investors to India. The government is actively seeking investors as companies look to diversify their manufacturing base to reduce reliance on a single source.
