Opposition Parties Slam West Bengal Govt. on BGBS, Question Investments

BJP Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, dubbed the Bengal Global Business Summit as ‘another jamboree at public expense’. The summit, aimed at attracting investments to West Bengal, faced criticism from the opposition parties. The CPI-M leadership also slammed the state government, claiming that the whole matter is a farcical event. Suvendu Adhikari, representing the BJP, questioned the effectiveness and accountability of the investments attracted through such summits. The opposition parties raised concerns over the government’s handling of the business summit and its impact on the state’s economy. They argued that the summit had failed to generate significant investments or job opportunities, making it a wasteful expenditure of public funds. The state government, on the other hand, defended the summit as a platform to showcase West Bengal’s potential and attract investors. The Bengal Global Business Summit has been an annual event to promote business and economic growth in the state. However, with the opposition parties criticizing it as a mere show without tangible results, questions have been raised about the efficiency and transparency of the investments attracted through the summit. Critics argue that the government should focus on more concrete measures to improve the state’s business environment and attract long-term investments that can benefit the overall development of West Bengal. The debate between the ruling party and the opposition regarding the Bengal Global Business Summit reflects the ongoing contestations in the political landscape of West Bengal, where each party tries to spin the narrative according to its own agenda and perspective.
