Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, at an election rally in Vallabhnagar, Udaipur, raised the pitch for caste census, calling it an ‘X-ray’ of the country. He emphasized the importance of knowing the population distribution across castes for effective participation in policy-making. Gandhi pledged that if the Congress comes to power in Rajasthan, it will conduct a caste census in the state. He also promised to carry out a caste census at the national level if the party forms the government at the Centre. Taking a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Gandhi highlighted the contradictions in his statements regarding caste and called the poor the only caste in India, whereas billionaire industrialists like Adani and Ambani have a special caste. He accused PM Modi of diverting public attention while billionaires like Adani take advantage. Gandhi emphasized the need for a caste census to address social and economic disparities in the country.
