Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stirred controversy by claiming that India’s loss in the cricket World Cup final was linked to it being played on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Speaking at an election rally, Sarma criticized the opposition parties and urged the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to avoid scheduling finals on the day coinciding with the birthday of any member of the Nehru-Gandhi family. He also questioned Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra for their stance on Hamas and discussed the proposed law to end polygamy in Assam. Sarma further suggested changing the name of Hyderabad to Bhagyanagar if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forms a government in Telangana.
