Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has announced the enforcement of security forces along the border with Myanmar. This action comes in response to the prevailing situation in Myanmar. The decision was made after 29 Myanmar soldiers who had fled to Mizoram were repatriated. Additionally, over 5,000 refugees have sought shelter in Mizoram, while 2,187 illegal immigrants have taken shelter in Manipur.

Singh stated that normalcy is expected to return in Manipur within one or two months. However, there are still elements attempting to create trouble in the region. The destruction of prefabricated houses is unfortunate, but efforts are underway for security and reconstruction. Although normalcy has been restored in most parts of the state, isolated incidents continue to occur. Singh strongly condemns these acts and urges the people to work together to restore normalcy in Manipur.

On Monday, two individuals, including an IRB personnel, were killed in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. A 48-hour total shutdown imposed by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, ended while an economic blockade along NH-2 and NH-37 is still ongoing. Volunteers were seen enforcing the total shutdown, but there were no reports of any untoward incidents. The protesters, predominantly Kuki-Zo women, demanded a CBI inquiry and justice, as well as a separate administration.

NG Lun Kipgen, CoTU’s Media Cell Coordinator, stated that the recent ambush on November 20, which claimed two innocent lives, marks the second fatal ambush by Valley-Based Insurgent Groups in the region. Kipgen highlighted the need for concrete evidence before arresting any suspects and expressed waning trust in the law and the central government. He emphasized that the prime minister should protect the minorities from becoming sacrificial lambs for the majority community.
