The private sector’s default on provident fund deposits with the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has risen by almost 10% over the last five years, resulting in arrears of more than Rs 15,000 crore for the retirement fund body in 2022-23, according to the EPFO’s draft annual report for 2022-23. The report reveals that PF dues by the private sector accounted for 74.2% of the total dues in 2018-19, 77.6% in 2019-20, 79.8% in 2020-21, 82.2% in 2021-22, and 83.17% in 2022-23.
