Releasing data from its internship drive held over two sessions in August this year, the Indian Institute of Technology Madras claimed a 19% increase in the number of internships offered for students of the 2023-24 batch. The first day of the drive witnessed a rise in the number of internships offered, with seven companies providing 19 international internship opportunities. Additionally, there was a 17% increase in the number of students who secured an internship offer. The campus also witnessed a 51% surge in the number of visiting companies. Sathyan Subbiah, advisor (placement and internship), emphasized the importance of internships in launching successful careers for students. P. Murugavel, co-adviser of placement and internship, highlighted the value of internships in exposing students to the corporate world and enabling them to apply their classroom knowledge to solve real-world problems. The companies that offered internships included Texas Instruments, J.P. Morgan Chase and Co., Adobe, Procter and Gamble, and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories. Mevit Mathew, Student Academic Affairs Secretary, expressed satisfaction with the record-breaking number of offers despite the uncertain market conditions.
