Soon after India and Australia decided to further crank up their defence ties with an eye on China’s aggressive behaviour in the Indo-Pacific, the two countries are all set to kick off the bilateral ‘AustraHind’ tri-Service combat exercise in Perth. This exercise aims to foster collaborative partnership and share best practices between India and Australia, while promoting interoperability during multidomain operations in urban and semi-urban terrains. Furthermore, Australia has invited India to actively participate in its largest multination exercise ‘Talisman Sabre’ in 2025. In return, Australia will take part in India’s air combat exercise ‘Tarang Shakti’ in Rajasthan in mid-2024. The AustraHind exercise, which will be conducted from November 23 to December 6, will witness the participation of soldiers from the Army, personnel from the Indian Air Force, and an officer from the Indian Navy. The joint drills will focus on tactics, techniques, and procedures for conducting tactical operations as well as sniper firing and operation of surveillance and communication equipment to enhance situational awareness.
