The much-debated Delisle bridge in Lower Parel, Mumbai, has finally opened for traffic after being closed for five years. The bridge, which gradually opened in phases since June, recently had its grand inauguration. Notable attendees included guardian ministers Deepak Kesarkar and MP Lodha, along with MLA and BJP party president Ashish Shelar, Shiv Sena MLA Sada Sarvankar, and BJP MLA Kalidas Kolamkar. The official opening occurred a week after Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray declared the bridge open, resulting in an FIR against him. MLC Sunil Shinde, who also faced an FIR, was present at the ceremony. He highlighted that the bridge’s reopening was in response to local residents’ demands and was done in collaboration with the ministers. Ashish Shelar advocated for removing Sunil Shinde’s name from the FIR, commending him for attending the inauguration despite the political controversy. Guardian minister Kesarkar playfully teased Shinde about his shift from Vidhan Sabha to Vidhan Parishad, expressing anticipation for his return. Plans for an escalator and creating open space underneath the bridge for sporting activities were also announced. Guardian minister MP Lodha suggested giving the bridge an Indian name to make it more relatable.
