After an agonising 11 days on a diet of popcorn, dry fruits, and puffed rice, the 41 stranded workers in the Silkyara tunnel finally received a hearty feast of fresh fruits, vegetarian pulao, roti, and sabzi. This “culinary lifeline” was ingeniously delivered through a six-inch supply pipe inserted through the rubble on Wednesday. Attempts to send them “bottled hot khichdi” had failed earlier due to the muck clogging the pipeline. The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) provided regular food and medicine supplies to the workers. They also received essential supplies and improved communication with the rescue teams, providing reassurance. The workers were trapped behind debris for over 11 days, but the modified communication system developed by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has ensured clear communication. This has significantly aided the rescue efforts.
