Former New York governor Andrew Cuomo is being sued by a former aide, Brittany Commisso, who alleges sexual harassment during his time in office. Commisso filed the lawsuit in state Supreme Court in Albany, taking advantage of the Adult Survivors Act, which grants victims of sexual abuse one year to file claims that would otherwise be barred by time limits. Cuomo resigned in 2021 after at least 11 women accused him of sexual misconduct. Commisso’s case seeks monetary damages and alleges sexual harassment and unwanted touching by Cuomo. The allegations against Cuomo led to a criminal charge that was dismissed last year. Cuomo’s attorney, Rita M Glavin, dismissed Commisso’s claims as false, pointing to the previous dismissal of the case by the Albany County District Attorney. The Adult Survivors Act has prompted a surge of lawsuits against prominent individuals accused of sexual misconduct, including former President Donald Trump, Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, and Russell Brand.
