Belagavi Cantonment Board’s CEO, K Anand, aged 40, was found dead at his government residence in the military camp area on Saturday morning. Anand, a native of Tamil Nadu and an officer of the Indian Defence Estate Service 2015 batch, had served in Belagavi for one and a half years.

The suspected suicide comes on the heels of a CBI raid on November 18 at the BCB office, which is currently under investigation for alleged wrongdoings in the recruitment of 19 employees in 2021.

The Belagavi City police commissioner, SN Sidramappa, stated that Anand was last seen on Thursday evening. Police were alerted on Saturday when he did not open the door for his househelps.

The police discovered a bottle suspected to contain a poisonous substance near the body along with two suicide notes. In one of the notes, Anand confessed to his addiction to gambling and mentioned taking loans that he was unable to repay. In the other note addressed to his parents, he apologized for not being able to take care of them.
