India paid tribute to the victims of the horrific 2008 Mumbai terror attacks perpetrated by Pakistan-based terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The city of Mumbai witnessed a candle march at the Gateway of India, symbolizing unity and resilience against terrorism. The Mumbai terror attacks, which commenced on November 26, 2008, and lasted until November 29, targeted prominent locations such as the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, the Oberoi Trident, the Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, and Leopold Cafe, among others. The terrorists caused extensive damage, claiming the lives of 166 people, including 18 security personnel, five US nationals, and six members of the Jewish community.
India’s Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar, applauded the courage of the security personnel who sacrificed their lives to protect others. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar highlighted that 15 years have passed since the Mumbai terror attacks, and India’s pursuit of justice against those responsible continues. The envoys of the United States and Israel paid their respects to the victims and affirmed their commitment to fighting terrorism in collaboration with the Indian government.
The Israeli ambassador extended gratitude to the Indian people for empathizing with the pain suffered by his family over the years. Moshe Holtzberg, who lost his parents in the assault on Nariman House during the 26/11 attacks, expressed appreciation for the support and condolences received from India. He emphasized the importance of peace worldwide, especially during Israel’s ongoing conflict with the Hamas terror group.
