A team of faculty and students from Grambling State University (GSU) recently participated in the 2023 Triennial International Let Us Dream Conference in Bangalore, India. The conference, established in 2017 at Louisiana Tech University, focuses on community improvement-based research, education, health, and social activism. GSU has been a partner institution since 2018. GSU made history as the only historically black college or university (HBCU) to be represented at the conference. President Rick Gallot, Jr. served as the keynote speaker on Day 2. The student delegation, consisting of Tiara Freeman, Jakyrannee Phillips, Mysty Henry, Isaiah Farrell, and Terrence Robinson, delivered speeches on topics related to their academic majors and experiences at an HBCU. They also encouraged Christ University students to apply to GSU’s Mass Communication program. The faculty from GSU, including Dr. Suzanne Mayo-Theus, Dr. George Noflin, Dr. Aaron Livingston, and Dr. Coleen Speed, participated in panels and delivered speeches on diversity, equity and inclusion, mental health awareness, HBCU history, and balancing sports and academics. The conference provided a platform for networking and cross-cultural experiences. GSU will host the Let Us Dream Conference in 2024 in Grambling, Louisiana.
