Meet Arnold Dix: International tunnel expert roped in for Uttarakhand rescue operation
    Uncategorized

After 17 painful days, all the 41 workers who were trapped in Uttarakhand’s Silkyara tunnel since November 12 have been successfully rescued. This rescue operation, considered one of the country’s biggest, involved the expertise of international tunnel expert Arnold Dix. Dix, the president of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, specializes in underground and transportation infrastructure. He arrived at the Silkyara tunnel site on November 20 and conducted an inspection, ruling out risks of collapse. Dix played a crucial role in coordinating with the agencies involved in the rescue operations. He noted that the collapse was an unusual situation caused by a change in the rock class and that further investigation was needed. Dix never promised a quick or easy rescue, but ensured that the workers would be back with their families by Christmas. Throughout the operation, he offered prayers for the workers’ safety and constantly reassured their families. The tunnel cave-in occurred on November 12, trapping 41 laborers inside. The workers were successfully rescued from the 2 km portion of the tunnel that had collapsed.
