Hilary Farr, co-host of the popular home improvement show ‘HGTV’s Love It or List It’, is bidding adieu to the series after 19 seasons. According to a report on PEOPLE, Farr made the decision to leave the show as she felt it was time for her to move on and meet new challenges.
Farr, known for her refined renovations and sharp critiques on the show, disclosed that she made the decision nearly a year ago, concluding with the filming of the latest season. She expressed her gratitude for the show and its impact on the audiences’ lives.
In 2021, while continuing to work on Love It or List It, Farr embarked on a new solo venture with her own series titled ‘Tough Love’ on the same network. The series features Farr devising creative solutions for clients dealing with dysfunctional spaces and recently aired its second season.
When asked about the reaction of her co-host David Visentin to the news of her departure, Farr mentioned that he initially didn’t believe her. She described their working relationship as authentic, and mentioned that she will miss everything about working with Visentin.
Farr, who battled breast cancer in 2014, expressed her appreciation for Visentin’s support during that difficult time. She emphasized that their friendship will continue even though they are no longer working together.
As for the future of Love It or List It without Farr, she acknowledged that it wouldn’t be surprising if the show is in search of a new co-host. She wished them all the luck and stated that she may tune in to watch it.
Regarding the future of ‘Tough Love’, Farr teased that she is not stepping away and mentioned having a few other projects in the pipeline. She also revealed her plans to construct a “tiny house” on a piece of land she purchased in Italy, describing it as an upcoming adventure.
Reflecting on her journey with cancer, Farr mentioned that it has altered her perspective on what holds significance for her and how she chooses to allocate her time. She expressed her desire to take joy out of every day and seek new challenges.
Farr acknowledged that being on Love It or List It has been a learning experience for her, offering insights into herself and the impact on viewers. The show has witnessed significant milestones in Farr’s life, including a divorce, her battle with cancer, her son’s wedding, the arrival of three grandchildren, and the dissolution of her long-term relationship.
Farr mentioned that it was these life experiences that motivated her to create ‘Tough Love’, aiming to shed light on the difficulties and challenges that people face in their lives.
She expressed gratitude for the show’s impact and the support it has provided to people going through tough times. Farr believes that every season and episode of Love It or List It was a challenge and she has grown both as a designer and as a human through the experience.
