India’s Power Consumption Grows 8.5% to 119.64 Billion Units in November

India’s power consumption in November rose by 8.5% to reach 119.64 billion units, according to government data. This growth can be attributed to the festive season and increased economic activities. In comparison, power consumption in November 2021 stood at 110.25 billion units. The peak power demand also witnessed a significant increase, reaching 204.60 GW in November. The power ministry had estimated the country’s electricity demand to touch 229 GW during the summer, but it did not reach the projected level due to unseasonal rain. However, peak supply reached a new high of 224.1 GW in June before dropping to 209.03 GW in July. Industry experts note that power consumption growth in November reflects the impact of festivities and better economic activities. With the expectation of steady growth in the coming months, driven by improvements in economic activities, India’s power consumption is set to continue its upward trajectory.
