French Minister Delegate for Digital Affairs to Visit India for Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence Summit

French Minister Delegate for Digital Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, will travel to India to attend the Ministerial Council of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit and strengthen bilateral cooperation on digital technology. This visit comes after the European Union’s adoption of the AI Act, making it the first democracy to establish comprehensive rules on AI. As a co-founding member of GPAI, France underscores the importance of international cooperation in responsible AI development. Barrot will highlight GPAI’s role in AI governance and discuss pressing issues such as generative AI. He will also meet with India’s Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology to discuss international AI governance and ongoing cooperation on digital technology. The cooperation is based on the Indo-French Roadmap on Cybersecurity and Digital Technology and received further impetus during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to France in 2023. Barrot will also meet AI experts and counterparts from other participating countries at the Summit. During the visit, he will explore India’s digital public infrastructure and learn about the Aadhaar scheme. Furthermore, the French minister will engage with Indian innovation ecosystem representatives and discuss ways to enhance ties between the French and Indian tech ecosystems, welcoming more Indian tech talents and start-ups to France.
