Telcos Differ with Govt Stance on 6 GHz Spectrum at WRC

India’s telcos are expressing concern over the interventions made by the Indian delegation on the issue of the 6 GHz spectrum band at the ongoing World Radiocommunications Conference (WRC). Telcos claim that these interventions are contrary to the initially agreed upon position. In a letter addressed to telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the telcos highlighted their worries that the discussions are shifting towards designating the band for delicensed WiFi usage. This, they argue, could have adverse effects on India’s Intercontinental Missile Technologies (IMT) interests. The telcos emphasize the importance of adhering to the original intentions for the band’s designation. They argue that deviating from the planned purpose would not only harm India’s mobile services interests but also hinder technological advancements and growth in the telecom sector. The telcos urge the government to reconsider their stance on the 6 GHz spectrum band at the WRC, in order to protect the interests of the industry and ensure future progress.
