Russian rocket forces have loaded a new Yars intercontinental ballistic missile into a silo at the Kozelsk base in the Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow, the defence ministry announced. The RS-24 (Yars) missile, measuring 23 meters in length, is designed to carry multiple independently targetable re-entry vehicles (MIRVs), enabling it to deliver several nuclear warheads at different targets. The defence ministry released a video clip showcasing the missile being transported and loaded into a silo accompanied by vibrant music. Russia possesses the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons globally, closely followed by the United States. Together, these two nations control over 90% of the world’s nuclear weapons. Russia has around 5,889 nuclear warheads, while the United States has approximately 5,244, as reported by the Federation of American Scientists. Both Russia and the United States have deployed around 1,670 strategic nuclear warheads.
