A woman and her lover were allegedly tied to a pole and beaten in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident took place in Bharivaisi village under the Farendra police station area. The woman had allegedly eloped with her lover and upon returning, the angry villagers subjected them to the brutal assault. The victims pleaded for mercy as they were beaten by the mob. The incident was recorded on video and circulated on social media, leading to police taking action. Police spokesperson, Circle Officer Pharenda Anuj Kumar Singh, stated that the woman was also assaulted by her in-laws due to suspicions of an extramarital affair. An assault case has been registered and one person has been arrested in connection with the incident.
