Economy is growing but the wealth is getting concentrated in a few hands and the challenge of unemployment continues, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in an interaction with some students of Harvard University. The former Congress president on December 23 shared a video of the interaction held on December 15, emphasizing the importance of connecting with people and listening to them. When asked about economic growth, Gandhi questioned who benefits from it and highlighted the issue of unemployment. He criticized the concentration of wealth in India, pointing out the growth of wealth alongside the rise in unemployment. Gandhi also discussed the need for a production economy that provides jobs to a large number of people. He mentioned the concentration of businesses owned by individuals like Mr. Adani, stating that it contributes to growth without distribution. Regarding electoral outcomes and mobilization of people, Gandhi mentioned the need for fair institutions and accessibility to finance. He expressed concerns about media censorship and the lack of a fair legal system and election commission. Gandhi also addressed the issue of caste discrimination and criticized the BJP-led government’s focus on one ideology, religion, and language. He highlighted the political fight in India and the consequences of ending negotiations. Gandhi mentioned ongoing conflicts in Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, and Tamil Nadu. He also commented on India’s relations with Russia, emphasizing the importance of maintaining relationships with multiple countries. Reflecting on his experience during the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi highlighted the disconnect between politicians and the people, emphasizing the importance of listening as a politician.
