Former South Africa captain Dean Elgar has announced his retirement from international cricket at the conclusion of the upcoming two-Test series against India. Elgar, who made his debut in 2012, has played 84 Tests and scored 5,146 runs at an average of 37.28. He has 13 centuries and 23 fifties under his belt. Cricket South Africa (CSA) stated that Elgar will end his international career with the two Test matches, with the first to be played at his home ground in Centurion from December 26-30 and the second at Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town from January 3-7. Elgar also had a successful stint as South Africa’s Test captain, winning nine out of 19 matches. Enoch Nkwe, South Africa’s director of cricket, praised Elgar’s contribution to the game and stated that the game will dearly miss him. Elgar expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to represent his country and called his decision to retire as the end of an incredible journey.
