As the biting cold gripped North India, Thalaikundha village in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district experienced unusually low temperatures. On Sunday, the village recorded a minimum temperature of 0°C, which caused disruptions to normal life. The residents, unaccustomed to such extreme cold weather, hurriedly sought refuge indoors. The bitter cold prompted the locals to remain mostly indoors.

Meanwhile, Ooty, one of the most prominent hill stations in South India, also experienced a drop in temperature. The minimum recorded temperature in Ooty was 7.5 degrees Celsius. The extensive grasslands in the Nilgiris district took on a magical appearance with fresh dewdrops, commonly known as white frost, covering the lush green grass. The phenomenon of white frost was observed in various areas of the hill station, including Ooty Nagar, Thalikunda, HPF, Kanthal, and Fingerpost.

The intense cold also affected the residents’ daily lives. Parked vehicles were coated with up to an inch of snow, making it difficult for residents to start their cars. The local meteorological officials noted significant fluctuations in both day and night temperatures over the past few weeks, with daytime temperatures consistently exceeding 25 degrees Celsius.
