The ministry of home affairs in India has designated Lakhbir Singh Landa, a Canada-based gangster, as a terrorist. This move comes amidst ongoing tension in diplomatic relations between India and Canada following a claim made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding Indian involvement in the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil. According to an official release by the ministry, Lakhbir Singh Landa is a 34-year-old individual with a permanent residence in Punjab, India. Currently residing in Edmonton, Canada, Landa is a member of Babbar Khalsa International, which is listed as a terrorist organization. The ministry further stated that Landa was involved in a terror attack on Punjab’s State Intelligence Headquarters, as well as in the supply of explosives and weapons from across the border for carrying out terrorist activities in Punjab. He was also involved in various criminal cases related to terrorist acts. For this reason, the ministry has added Lakhbir Singh Landa’s name to the Fourth Schedule of the UAPA Act.
