The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has questioned Congress MP Karti Chidambaram for the second time in less than a month in connection with a money laundering case related to alleged violation of rules in issuing visas to 260 Chinese nationals in 2011 under the UPA government.

Karti, the son of former Union home minister P Chidambaram, has been under investigation for alleged bribes received by one of his associates to lobby for visas with the Union home ministry. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had filed an FIR in the case, stating that Karti lobbied his father for issuing visas to Chinese nationals engaged in a power project in Punjab.

S Bhaskaraman, who is allegedly a close associate of Karti, was also named as a co-accused by the CBI. He is accused of receiving kickbacks from Talwandi Sabo Power Ltd, a company in the Vedanta group, which was setting up a power plant in Punjab with Chinese assistance. Following the allegations, the CBI searched Karti’s residences in Delhi and Chennai. The ED later conducted its own search and seizure operations as part of the investigation.

Karti was previously questioned by the ED on December 23, with the Congress MP dismissing the session as a routine affair. The ED’s investigation is ongoing, and further details are yet to be revealed.
