India’s Indigenous Air Defence System to Undergo User Trials

India’s Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has developed an indigenous very short-range air defence system (VSHORADS) to counter low-altitude aerial threats. The system, expected to have a range of 6 kilometers, is set to undergo user trials in the coming months. According to a senior defense official, the VSHORADS, equipped with a state-of-the-art uncooled imaging infrared seeker, outperforms the existing Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (MANPADS) currently in use by the Indian armed forces. The system is designed to neutralize low-altitude aerial threats effectively and strengthen the country’s defense capabilities.
