Anganwadi workers in Mumbai conducted a protest at Azad Maidan to demand their rights and better working conditions. However, after two days of demonstrations and meetings with government officials, the workers have decided to discontinue their protest. On the first day, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met with the workers for 45 minutes, but no concrete solutions were proposed. The following day, the workers staged a massive protest with restrictions on their movement imposed by the police. Later, meetings were held with Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development and Minister of Rural Development & Panchayat Raj. Despite assurances from the government, the workers expressed their mistrust due to the lack of a written agreement. Financial constraints also played a role in their decision to end the protest at Azad Maidan. The workers plan to continue their protest and strike in their respective districts. The demands of the workers included gratuity, increased remuneration, monthly pension, mobile phones, and higher prices for food provided to children. While the demand for a salary increase was denied by the Chief Minister, discussions on pension are ongoing. The workers also expressed dissatisfaction with the quality of mobile phones provided to them. For more details, read the full article.
