The girls of Visakha Government Women’s College in Visakhapatnam had a vibrant celebration during the Freshers’ Day festivities. The event took place on the college campus, with the students showcasing their talents in various performances. The celebrations started with a girl presenting a folk dance, followed by demonstrations of Dhimsa and Lambada dances. These performances created a festive Sankranti atmosphere among the guests. Attendance at the event was graced by Mizoram Governor Kambhampati Haribabu, who praised the students for honoring Sankranti traditions and culture. He also acknowledged the contributions of the late college founder, Srungavarapu Surya Rao, in establishing a women’s college and securing funding during its early years. The governor mentioned the college’s accomplishments, such as receiving an NAAC A+ Grade and launching a Women Entrepreneurs’ Cell. He further elaborated on the government’s initiatives for women’s empowerment, particularly in education and legislative representation. The college principal, S. Shobarani, presided over the meeting, and meritorious students were honored by the governor. The celebration also involved garlanding a statue of Surya Rao and tree planting on the campus.
