Mehbooba Mufti, the Chief of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of turning common people into militants in Jammu and Kashmir. She believes that the BJP’s policies have alienated the Kashmiri people, leading to an increase in militancy. Mufti’s remarks come amid the ongoing political conflict between the PDP and the BJP in the region.

In a scathing attack on the BJP, Mufti stated, ‘You have left no option for the common people of Jammu and Kashmir. You have pushed them to the wall. They were neither separatists nor militants, but you turned them into militants with your policies.’ She further added, ‘When young children pick up guns, it is not because of guns, but because they have lost hope. They don’t see any future for themselves. This is what happens when you leave no option for the people.’

Mufti’s comments come at a time when tensions between the PDP and the BJP are running high. The two parties had formed a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir in 2015, but it collapsed in 2018. Since then, the political landscape in the region has been fraught with disputes and conflicts.

The PDP has been critical of the BJP’s handling of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly its decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which granted special status to the region. Mufti and other PDP leaders have argued that the revocation of Article 370 has led to a sense of disillusionment and anger among the Kashmiri people, fueling the rise in militancy.

The BJP, on the other hand, has accused the PDP of aligning with separatist forces and indulging in divisive politics. The party has defended its decision to revoke Article 370, arguing that it has paved the way for the region’s development and integration with the rest of India.

The ongoing conflict between the PDP and the BJP highlights the deep-rooted political divide in Jammu and Kashmir. Both parties have different visions for the region, and their clash of ideologies has further polarized the political landscape. As the tensions continue to simmer, the common people of Jammu and Kashmir bear the brunt of this political confrontation.
