Communist Party of India (Marxist) State secretary M.V. Govindan criticized Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan for distressing subsistence-level settler farmers in Idukki district. The governor refused to sign the Kerala Government Land Assignment (Amendment) Bill passed by the assembly into law. In response, Govindan inaugurated the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Idukki district committee’s march to the Raj Bhavan. The bill aims to empower the state government to regularize any contravention of land lease conditions and allow land use for purposes other than initially assigned. The police stopped the march near Raj Bhavan.
