Tata Consultancy Services to Shift Focus to Japan, Latin America, Southern Europe

India’s top software-services exporter, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is planning to shift its focus to markets such as Japan, Latin America, and Southern Europe. This decision comes after TCS reported its slowest quarterly profit growth in years and a continuous decline in revenue from its mainstay market, North America. K. Krithivasan, the CEO of TCS, stated that although the company is not consciously reducing exposure in North America, it is looking to expand in other geographies. North America has historically been vital for the Indian IT sector, but with clients being hesitant to spend on discretionary projects due to inflationary pressures and economic uncertainty, TCS is exploring growth opportunities in other regions. Japan, despite being one of the largest tech spenders, contributes very little to India’s IT sector revenue, making it a potential market for TCS. Additionally, TCS is also focusing on its home turf, with India contributing to 6.1% of its revenue in the latest quarter. Latin America accounted for 2.1% of TCS’s revenue. The company remains optimistic about the upcoming financial year, expecting it to be better than the current one, which has been challenging for the Indian IT industry. Other major players in the industry, such as Infosys, HCLTech, and Wipro, have also faced revenue challenges. TCS’s strategic shift towards new markets aims to diversify its revenue sources and sustain growth in the long run.
