Communist Party of India MP Binoy Viswam has written a letter to external affairs minister S Jaishankar expressing concern over the safety and security of Indian workers being sent to Israel. Viswam urges the minister to ensure social security and generous insurance provisions for the workers as the government plans to send at least 10,000 workers to the conflict-hit nation. Viswam highlights that even basic measures for protecting the workers, such as insurance and medical coverage, are not being followed. He emphasizes that these workers will be engaged in low paying jobs while their lives and social security are at risk. The conflict in Israel has already claimed the lives of nearly 200 workers. Viswam criticizes the move, stating that it indicates a complete failure in generating meaningful employment in the country. He argues that ordinary people who are desperate for employment and struggling with poverty will pay a heavy price for Prime Minister Modi’s friendly relations with Israel. Viswam also questions the neglect of norms relating to workers’ migration, such as the necessity to register on the e-Migrate portal. This is not the first time Viswam has raised concerns about Indian workers being sent to Israel. He previously wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing protest against the move, which aimed to counter the displacement of 90,000 Palestinians due to the ongoing conflict.
