President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the importance of empowering women in social, economic, political, and spiritual spheres for India to realize its vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Speaking during an interaction with members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Meghalaya, Murmu said that women need the freedom to make their choices for women-led development to be implemented. She highlighted the role of economic independence in boosting women’s confidence and commended India’s women for their achievements in various fields such as defense, science and technology, sports, education, entrepreneurship, and agriculture. Murmu encouraged SHG members to continue progressing and support other women in their journey beyond the confines of their homes, inspiring them and creating opportunities for them. Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma expressed gratitude for President Murmu’s visit, especially as the first tribal President, and emphasized the government’s stakeholder-based approach to development, focusing on the youth, women, and farmers of Meghalaya.
