West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a ‘rally for harmony’ in Kolkata on January 22, the same day when the Ram Temple will be inaugurated in Ayodhya. Mamata Banerjee, who is also the chief of Trinamool Congress, has decided to skip the Ayodhya ceremony, calling it a pre-poll gimmick by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. She has stated that on January 22, she will visit the Kalighat temple and offer prayers, and then participate in a harmony rally with people of all religions. Mamata Banerjee has clarified that this rally has nothing to do with any other program. The rally will begin at the Hazra crossing in south Kolkata and will pass through various places of worship of different religions, including mosques, churches, and gurdwaras, before culminating at the Park Circus Maidan. Earlier, while announcing her decision to stay away from the Ayodhya ceremony, Mamata Banerjee stated that she celebrates festivals that include everyone and that as long as the Trinamool Congress government is in office in Bengal, there will be no discrimination against Sikhs, Christians, Muslims, or tribal people. She criticized the BJP for indulging in pre-election gimmicks and neglecting people of other communities, asserting that Bengal has no room for division and discrimination. Meanwhile, the Congress has accused the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of turning the Ram Temple ceremony into a completely political Narendra Modi function. The grand old party declined the invitation to its leaders to attend the ceremony.
