The Indian women’s hockey team showed resilience in their match against Germany in the FIH Olympic Qualifier. The game went into a penalty shootout after both teams were tied at 2-2 in regulation time. Germany managed to win the shootout 4-3, earning a spot in the Paris Olympics. However, India still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics by facing Japan in the third-fourth place match. The top three teams from the tournament will secure their place in the Paris Games. Germany, currently ranked fifth in the world, will compete against the USA in the final. During the regular time, Deepika and Ishika Chaudhary scored for India, while Charlotte Stapenhorst netted both goals for Germany. The match was characterized by Germany’s relentless attacks and India’s resilient defense, led by goalkeeper Savita Punia. India’s finishing lacked precision, but they still managed to force the match into a shootout. Despite some impressive saves by Savita, India couldn’t capitalize on the sudden-death one-on-one situations, ultimately handing Germany the victory.
