A group of private omni bus operators and passengers staged a protest at the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) against the decision to move all south-bound omni buses to the Kilambakkam terminus. The Commissionerate of Transport and Road Safety had issued a circular stating that south-bound omni buses found operating from the Koyambedu bus terminus would face legal action. The All Omni Bus Operators Association argued that this sudden relocation will cause serious inconvenience to passengers who had already booked tickets in advance. They also highlighted the lack of necessary facilities and parking space at Kilambakkam, which can potentially lead to traffic congestion on GST Road. However, officials from the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) defended the decision, stating that sufficient bus bays and idle parking space are available at Kilambakkam. They also mentioned the provision of booking counters for omni bus operators and separate parking spaces in Mudichur. This dispute raises concerns about unhealthy competition and potential revenue loss for the government.
