West Bengal government to offer government jobs to awarded sportspersons

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee announced on Thursday that a special desk will be created to offer government jobs to sportspersons who have brought accolades to the state and were awarded by the state government. The state government also announced a monthly Rs 1,000 pension for retired sportspersons. Sportspersons who received awards will submit their curriculum vitae at the desk and will be provided jobs by the state government. Banerjee stated that necessary laws will be passed to facilitate these awarded sportspersons, and it should be ensured that these sportsmen do not face any hassle in the process of getting jobs. A total of 322 sportspersons were awarded and a total of Rs 6.42 crore have been spent on the awards. Banerjee also awarded the women’s team who won gold in the 19th Asian Games, the men’s cricket team, and sportspersons who brought prizes in shooting, swimming, and other sports. Banerjee also awarded several winners of the para-olympic games. In addition, Banerjee announced that pension will be given to 1567 sports persons starting from September 1, with retro effect. Meanwhile, Banerjee urged voters to exercise their franchise on National Voters’ Day and emphasized that every vote counts to build the nation. She posted on Twitter, urging fellow citizens to rise up to their own strengths, resist every idea of weakness, respond to the call of the diverse nation, and help institutionalize humanity above everything else. Development devoid of plurality and humanity is like erecting a castle without smiling faces living inside.
