BJP MP Harnath Singh Yadav raised his voice against the Places of Worship Act, 1991, during a Zero Hour discussion in the Rajya Sabha. He argued that the legislation impinges on the religious rights of Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists, which are protected under the Constitution. The law prohibits the conversion of any place of worship and ensures the maintenance of their religious character as of August 15, 1947. Yadav urged the government to repeal the law immediately, stating that it is illogical and damaging communal harmony in the country. He also noted that the law’s cut-off date is arbitrary and does not make sense.
