Prime Minister Narendra Modi defended the action of central investigative agencies on Monday and stated that his government’s fight against corruption will continue. Speaking in the Lok Sabha, Modi reiterated that anyone who has looted the country will have to pay back. He emphasized that probe agencies are independent and their actions are subject to the judgment of the courts.

Modi further pointed out the difference in seizure amounts under the Congress rule and his government, stating that the Enforcement Directorate seized only Rs 5,000 crore during the former’s rule, while the figure reached Rs 1 lakh crore under his government.

The Prime Minister’s remarks come amidst the actions of the Enforcement Directorate against several opposition leaders across the country. In Bihar, the ED is questioning former chief minister Lalu Prasad and his family in connection with an alleged land-for-jobs scam. In Jharkhand, the ED arrested JMM leader and former chief minister Hemant Soren for his alleged involvement in a money laundering probe. In Haryana, former chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda is under ED probe in connection with a land deal case. Several Trinamool leaders in Bengal are also facing probe over alleged scams.
