Biden Nominates Indian-origin Judge for US Court in Eastern District of New York

President Joe Biden has nominated Indian-origin judge Sanket Jayshukh Bulsara for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Bulsara, 46, is an expert in securities, contract, bankruptcy, and regulatory matters. He has been a US Magistrate Judge for the Eastern District of New York since 2017, and was the first South Asian American federal judge to serve on any court in the Second Circuit. The White House announced Bulsara’s nomination, along with other judicial nominees, who are described as qualified, experienced, and devoted to the rule of law and the Constitution. Biden’s nomination of Bulsara reflects his promise to ensure diversity in the nation’s courts. Bulsara’s previous roles include serving as Acting General Counsel of the US Securities and Exchange Commission and working at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP. He has also served as a Special Assistant District Attorney and worked at Munger, Tolles & Olson LLP. Bulsara holds a JD from Harvard Law School and an AB from Harvard College. He was born in the Bronx and currently lives in Long Island City with his wife.
